Our primary goal is to ensure that every child leaving our school is not only physically literate but also possesses the knowledge, skills, and motivation to lead a healthy, active lifestyle with a lifelong commitment to physical activity and sports. To achieve this, we offer multiple weekly activity sessions for all our students, along with opportunities for extracurricular physical education and sports, including both intra and inter-school competitions. Furthermore, we actively encourage physical activity during playtimes and lunchtimes to ensure that every child meets the daily recommended levels of physical activity.
It is our belief that every young person should have the opportunity to lead a healthy and active life. A positive introduction to sports and physical activity during youth can establish a lifelong habit of participation.
Physical activity holds numerous benefits for the physical health and mental well-being of children and young people. It boosts self-esteem, emotional well-being, and reduces anxiety and depression. Physically active children tend to be happier, more resilient, and have greater trust in their peers. Providing students with sufficient daily physical activity not only benefits them individually but also contributes to improved behavior and academic achievement in schools.
The Government's School Sport and Activity Action Plan underscores their commitment to ensuring that children and young people have access to a minimum of 60 minutes of sport and physical activity each day, with a recommendation of 30 minutes of this occurring during the school day. This aligns with the guidelines provided by the Chief Medical Officers, which recommend an average of at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day throughout the week.
This funding has allowed us to enhance and increase our sports provision in the school. For example:

The impact of the sports premium funding is particularly noticeable in a small school. The after school clubs ensure that all children have the opportunity to develop their skills and abilities and apply them competitively. A trim trail has been installed in the playground for all children to use. Children are trained as lunchtime buddies and young leaders, so they are able to lead games at playtimes. Swimming lessons were extended to enable all children in KS2 to be able to swim 25m. Children take part in a range of sporting competitions which are celebrated with certificates in school assemblies. Staff receive professional development from the specialist coaches from the West Lancashire School Sports Partnership (WLSPP).
School Games Award – Our children were awarded the WLSSP Virtual Sports Award and the School Games award in2020.
Sports premium is providing quality P.E sessions for all children, with staff having access to weekly CPD to ensure sustainability and quality of P.E and sport provision in school.
100% of our children are involved in an additional P.E activity or competition with 85% of children involved at least one afterschool club.
