Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is an extra allocation of funds provided to publicly funded schools in England, aimed at improving the academic achievement of disadvantaged students and narrowing the gap between their performance and that of their peers. The funding amount is determined by the number of eligible students who have claimed free school meals at any point within the last six years.

At Burscough Bridge Methodist School, we are deeply committed to enhancing the educational outcomes of our disadvantaged pupils. To help them overcome the obstacles to learning and ensure their happiness and success not only during their time at our school but also in their future lives, we adhere to the following guiding principles:

Aspiration and attainment for all

Our school promotes a culture of aspiration and achievement for all, encouraging staff to convey positive and optimistic messages to every student.

Quality of teaching and learning

We instill the value of positive, growth mindsets in our disadvantaged students to inspire them to reach their full potential.

Personalised provision

We ensure that personalised provision is in place for children who have barriers for learning identified and educational needs accurately assessed and met.

Utilise evidence and data

We utilise evidence (especially the Education Endowment Foundation Toolkit) to decide the most effective strategies in overcoming the barriers to learning.

Deploy staff effectively

We deploy staff effectively to work with pupils who need the most support and training is provided where necessary to support pupils' learning.

Good behaviour and attendance

We have robust systems in place to monitor and support good behavior and attendance for all our students. Poor attendance is promptly addressed as a top priority.

Collect, analyse and use data 

Our educators collect, analyze, and apply data to identify students' learning needs and frequently review their progress. In cases of underperformance, swift action is taken through extra support and interventions.

Engage and empower families

Every effort is made to engage and empower parents and carers in the education and progress of their child.

Promote a sense of belonging

We create opportunities for our Pupil Premium-eligible students through extracurricular activities and additional roles within the classroom and school community, fostering a strong sense of belonging.

High expectations from & for all

We have high expectations for all and acknowledge unique challenges to learning can be overcome.

Promoting a passion for learning

Our goal is to cultivate a lasting love for learning among all our students. We achieve this by laying a solid foundation in English and mathematics and by imparting a diverse range of skills and knowledge through our rich and varied curriculum.
