At Burscough Bridge Methodist School we are fortunate to have a very active Governing Body which supports the school community to enrich the lives of all involved.

We are a thriving, child friendly school where our pupils achieve and benefit greatly from the good teaching enhanced by the caring-trusting relationships staff have developed with the children and their families. Our school has a strong reputation within the village as a school that delivers child-centred pastoral care with high expectations. The development of the WHOLE CHILD is at the forefront of everything we do at Burscough Bridge Methodist School.

The school has consistently received ‘Good’ Ofsted (March 2017) and SIAMS (January 2017) alongside the Gold Behaviour Award. We have an exceptional whole staff team who are dedicated and driven. Children achieve well, are happy, caring and motivated. They are eager to learn within an actively engaged Methodist church family and local community.

The Governing Body is responsible for the efficient running of the school and meets at least once per term.

The Governing Board can be a combination of are parents, carers, teachers and non-teaching staff of the school, Methodist church foundation members, Local Authority representatives, and people from the local community. Governors hold office for a term of four years. The governors have certain legal duties, powers and responsibilities:-

  • They help to decide what is taught in the school
  • They interview and select staff
  • They help to decide how the school budget is spent

The remit for the Governing Body is to:

a) Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
b) Hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
c) Oversee the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The Governing Body is broken down into smaller committees that hold meetings to gather information and decide the best way forward for the school and present this at the Full Board meetings.

These committees are below with their given remits:-

Finance & Resources Committee Standards & effectiveness Committee Appraisal/Pay Committee-
Remit: To deal with all matters delegated by the Governing Body regarding, Finance, Personnel and Health and Safety.
Remit: To deal with all matters delegated by the Governing Body regarding, Standards in school and the curriculum. To deal with Annual Reception intake. Remit: To make decisions about performance related pay for Teachers and the Headteacher.
Three Governors on the Pay Committee and 3 Governors on the Appeals Committee.
